Don’t Miss: “Our Heroes” Fashion Fundraiser for Gemma Foundation

Monday, April 18, 2011

What a way to kick off Mother's Day this year.

Celebrate the women in your life at the 4th Annual  “Our Heroes” Fashion Show of the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation on Saturday, May 7th at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet, Broad Street, Cranston.  The event begins with preview and shopping at 5pm.  More than 20 vendors will be displaying and selling jewelry, fashion, accessories, and more, designed to be in time for Mother’s Day gift giving.

Survivors take to the runway

Everett Hoag, President of RI Fashion will serve as emcee for the fashion show.  Models are survivors, and the female survivors will be wearing dresses from the Gloria Gemma Dresses that Cure shop, on Broad Street in Cranston.  Two models will be escorted on the runway by their sons who are firemen from the Pink Heels group.  Other escorts will come from the five branches of the military, and will include physicians, Harley, and Mayor Allan Fung of Cranston and Mayor Donald Grebien of Pawtucket.

A family theme

“We are very excited for this year’s event, said Maria Gemma, CEO of the Foundation.  "This year we have a family theme to all our events, because we know that when breast cancer impacts one person in a family, it is the whole family that is forever changed, especially children and grandchildren.  As we recognize our ‘year of the family’ we’re thrilled to offer wonderful shopping opportunities the night before Mother’s Day.  We encourage people to bring the women in their lives – their mothers, sisters, wives – and do some shopping, and enjoy the evening and the fashion show, and support our survivor models and escorts."

At the finale of the Fashion Show a special mystery feature will be debuted in a multi-media display promising to make the evening one to remember as the Foundation will announce its plan to be able to promote breast cancer awareness and breast health education to more people in the region.
