Reinvent Your Wardrobe for a Good Cause at Clothing Swap

Saturday, March 24, 2012

This weekend offers Central Mass residents the chance to breathe new life into their wardrobes, and help animals that have been the victims of abuse in the process.

The Maple Farm Sanctuary in Mendon will be holding a clothing swap and bake sale Saturday from 11am to 3 pm, with all the proceeds going to help abused and neglected farm animals from the area. Participants are asked to bring men’s and women’s clothes, belts, shoes, jewelry, hats and accessories. For every item brought, they can then take a different item home, for up to 10 items.

Items from such retailers as DKNY, Liz Claiborne, The Gap and Talbots have already been donated, ranging from cozy sweaters to bright summer dresses. The event will be held at the Unitarian Congregation at 13 Maple St. in Mendon, and all clothes brought for exchange must be clean and in good condition. In addition to the swap, a raffle will be held, and delicious baked goods made without animal products will be sold.

The swap offers the unique opportunity to rejuvenate a wardrobe at a fraction of the cost of shopping at these well-known retailers. It also has the added benefit of educating participants on the issue of animal neglect and cruelty, particularly with farm animals like cows, pigs, chickens and goats.

If you would like to donate clothes or baked goods, or if you have
questions about the event, please call 508-473-2634. Or you can reach the Sanctuary by email at
[email protected]. Visit the Sanctuary’s website here for more
information about its founders and animal
residents.
