Easy Beauty Resolutions You Can Keep

Saturday, January 12, 2013

Lofty resolutions are great but hit the mid-January deck running with these super easy beauty resolutions you can start today.

Out with the old

Everybody knows that mascara should be tossed after three months, but all makeup has an expiration date. If you didn't use that lavender eye shadow in 2005, trust us, you won't use it in 2013! Keep what's left behind in a new makeup caddy. Caboodles still makes the sharpest looking acrylic trays in sizes to accommodate makeup mavens as well as minimalists.  Resolve to keep your makeup up clean, neat, and organized in 2013! Your morning just got easier. Caboodles, Target.

Brush up this year

Fill one of those acrylic slots with some fluffy new makeup brushes. You can spend a fortune on them but travel collections are cheaper and the smaller handles are manageable and easy to store. Sephora has several sets to choose from that will help you get your artistry on. New year with spanking new brushes equals new you! Sephora, Millbury.

Ban the flakes

Why go through 2013 with flaky lips when you can resolve to keep a tube of lip gloss on hand at all times? Bobbi Brown Shimmer Lip Gloss is the one with the most staying power. It wears like a lipstick and is uber moist without your hair getting stuck in it when you're out sledding with the kids. Try Kir Shimmer for a pretty go-with-everything color with just the slightest frost that actually makes your lips look fuller. Resolve to keep the flakes at bay and make 2013 the year you finally ditch that not chic mentholated chapped lips goo! Bobbi Brown, Macy's

Hire the Night Shift

Makeup is for daytime but let your sleeping hours do some of the beauty work too. Your before bed routine should include a fantastic new eye cream with some of the anti-aging properties you've probably been wondering about. L'Oreal Advanced RevitaLife won't break the bank but minimizes wrinkles and dreaded morning puffiness, AND it works its magic while you're catching those zzz's. Don't go to bed without it this year. L’Oreal, Walgreens.

Hand cream - every time

After the holiday mega-cooking and cleaning sessions, we're all dealing with lobster claw syndrome. Resolve to use a hyper hydrating cream made just for hands. Slather it on each and every time your hands hit water in 2013! Crabtree and Evelyn's Rosewater Hand Therapy is one of the best hand treatments around. The rose scent is subtly divine but more importantly, it brings back the comfy and your hands will be soft and lovely again. Work it into your cuticles for a mini-massage and beauty break and you’ll be reaching for it automatically. The stuff works. Crabtree and Evelyn, Sturbridge.

OK, so maybe you've already skipped the gym a couple of times, and that Tiramisu last Saturday night had your name on it, but these doable resolutions will have you back on the beauty track right now. You'll feel better, will be more organized, and that may get you to put your gym bag back in the car!
