Fashion Update: Hot Dresses for Prom

Thursday, April 21, 2011

In 2011, short party dresses have emerged as the top trend for prom nationwide. No longer considered too informal, these fun and flirty minis are a great way to pack the personality and make a bold statement with shoes and accessories.

A great place to find this season’s hottest prom looks in Rhode Island is at ZuZu’s Petals, a unique dress boutique with three convenient locations in Rhode Island. At the Providence location, Dorna Shafaee-Maghadam raved that spring was always her favorite season for dresses and this prom season, there are certainly some trends to get excited about. Be prepared, though: most of the designs talked about here ranged from $250-$400, with most falling somewhere around $330. Here's what she had to say about Prom 2011 trends.

Trend: spring color

In terms of color, youthful, fresh colors of spring have largely replaced black in dresses of all styles, with creams, blues and corals leading the way. Taking a cue from the Hollywood, girls can make a star statement in a one-shouldered mini.  For girls who want to make a red carpet entrance at prom, though, Maghadam suggests a BCBG Max Azria red one-shouldered party dress (below left) with playful embellishment at the bottom.

Trend: short

Those looking to sparkle in something funky and unique will be right on trend in a short metallic cocktail dress like the Shoshanna gold sandstone party dress. A perfect way to add some flare to short look is with hints of upper body embellishments, which take care of jewelry besides accent earrings to highlight the face. Laundry by Shelli Segal specializes in these sophisticated details. Another popular example is a Shoshanna juicy tomato party dress with gold embellishments by the bust.

Trend: if long, then sleek

For those girls looking to go the more traditional gown route, long sleek lines in whites and blues are the way to go for a clean and chic look. A classic dress, which girls love every season is simple, satin strapless gown by Laundry by Shelli Segal. It comes in an assortment of colors, with aqua blue being the favorite this season
