The LOOK: Holiday Hair Glamour

Monday, December 10, 2012

The holidays mean sparkly decorations everywhere... don't leave your hair out of the fun. Make your look sparkle in a way that suits the season.

He was the lead hair stylist on Sex and the City 2, he made Anne Hathaway fabulous on film, and he's GoLocal's weekly style expert. Frank Barbosa, the Newport-based celebrity stylist, brings red carpet perspective to hair, makeup, and overall style.

We are upon another holiday party time of year again, and as holiday clothes are becoming more and more glam we are in need of glam hair as well. This is the time of year when we get to be a little more jazzed-up in our party looks without feeling overdone, so why not go for the glam with your next party do?

Here are some tips on becoming the hair-stopper of the party!

Match the drop

Make sure your hair matches the dress or outfit you are wearing. If your dress or blouse has an open or low-cut back, pull your hair up to maximize it. Low-cut front? Hair down!

Make waves

Set your hair in the morning so that while running errands or working, your hair is setting into waves or volume that will be needed that evening. I'm not saying that you should go out like Carol Burnett in hot rollers, but you certainly can pull of braids, high-ponys, or even clipped up all around. Don't forget to add setting lotions to make those curves reveal themselves and last.

Decorate!

Bring on the hair ornaments! Remember, this is a season when decorations are everywhere--so why not add your own little twinkle to make a statement?

PS: This is the perfect time to get your makeup professionally done, so your one appointment before party should be with a fab artist that will get that winter wonderland look together for you.

Happy beautiful party season!

From Sex and the City 2 to Rachel Getting Married, from The Sorcerer's Apprentice to Bride Wars, Frank Barbosa has styled some of the biggest celebrities in film, TV, and theater. He's just finished styling on location alongside film stylist Alan D'Angerio on the film, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, starring Jennifer Garner. He's been in the industry for 17 years, moving from hip neighborhoods in Chicago, to Boston's Newbury St, to Bellevue Avenue in Newport. He maintains that his real passion, though, is being behind a salon chair at Frank Antonio Hair and Makeup in Newport.
