The LOOK: Hot Hair Trend for Fall

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

You'll turn heads with braids this summer and fall. Photo: Love Maegan/flickr.

He was the lead hair stylist on Sex and the City 2, he made Anne Hathaway fabulous on film, and he's GoLocal's weekly style expert. Frank Barbosa, the Newport-based celebrity stylist, brings red carpet perspective to hair, makeup, and overall style.

It's been trending all summer, and I predict into the fall they'll be everywhere: braids, braids, braids. I saw them in abundance while strolling Boston's Newbury Street this week and we're getting requests in the salon to plait your tresses. Think how you can incorporate the loose, modern braid into your personal look with these 3 easy steps.

1. Research

Hit the keyboard and Google "braid", "updo", and "braid look" and you will find everyone from Jennifer to Claire wearing them. Eyeball the fashion shots and pick one that suits you.

2. Stay loose

Optimize your impact with this smart strategy: Wear your braids loose and big, so you don't need to master the form any time soon. Plus, the more undone the braid, the better the look, currently!

3. Go special for special

Plan braided do's for the rest of this season's special events, like summer parties, weddings, or any kind of get-together with the girls. You'll get practice for daily wear and harvest compliments at the same time!

Happy braiding!

From Sex and the City 2 to Rachel Getting Married, from The Sorcerer's Apprentice to Bride Wars, Frank Barbosa has styled some of the biggest celebrities in film, TV, and theater. He's just finished styling on location alongside film stylist Alan D'Angerio on the film, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, starring Jennifer Garner. He's been in the industry for 17 years, moving from hip neighborhoods in Chicago, to Boston's Newbury St, to Bellevue Avenue in Newport. He maintains that his real passion, though, is being behind a salon chair at Frank Antonio Hair and Makeup in Newport.
