The LOOK: NY Fashion Week Behind The Scenes Beauty Tips

Saturday, February 16, 2013

Frank Barbosa has spent the week in New York with fashion editors and bloggers... here's what they see as this spring's big trends.

He was the lead hair stylist on Sex and the City 2, he made Anne Hathaway fabulous on film, and he's GoLocalWorcester's weekly style expert. Frank Barbosa, the Newport-based celebrity stylist, brings red carpet perspective to hair, makeup, and overall style.

I've spent the week in New York City at NY Fashion Week, styling the tresses of editors, bloggers, tweeters... all the make-it-or-break-it fashionistas in the literary world. While I was styling them, they were picking up the inside scoop on upcoming spring looks. Here's what I heard overheard in the editors' lounge about the upcoming fashion season:

Top buns!

I've been saying it forever--it's all the rage in Paris and now makes its debut statewide. Did you see Jennifer Lopez rocking it at the Grammy's last weekend? Top knots are the thing. Everything sits atop, but not pulled severely back. Then add a great bang, which is also all the rage.

Lips and lashes

For lips, it's about extremes this season. Either a nude lip or racey red. After that, you can skip the makeup but not the lashes--falses are the thing and really thick mascara. The editors agree--a little BB cream and lashes will take you out all day long.

Spirals unwound

When wearing your hair down, gone are the spirals! For energy, the iron will do you especially 'round the cheek bones.

So pile it up, rock your lips and lashes, and hit your own personal runway. Spring's coming!

From Sex and the City 2 to Rachel Getting Married, from The Sorcerer's Apprentice to Bride Wars, Frank Barbosa has styled some of the biggest celebrities in film, TV, and theater. He's just finished styling on location alongside film stylist Alan D'Angerio on the film, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, starring Jennifer Garner. He's been in the industry for 17 years, moving from hip neighborhoods in Chicago, to Boston's Newbury St, to Bellevue Avenue in Newport. He maintains that his real passion, though, is being behind a salon chair at Frank Antonio Hair and Makeup in Newport.
