The LOOK: Snow Day Beauty Projects

Thursday, January 27, 2011

He was the lead hair stylist on Sex and the City 2, he made Anne Hathaway fabulous on film, and now he's GoLocalProv's weekly style expert. Frank Barbosa, the Newport-based celebrity stylist, brings red carpet perspective to hair, makeup, and overall style.

For those of you who are finding it hard to get out in this crazy New England weather, here are some quick hair tips or hair ideas for you to try at home through the storms.

One. A little diva DIY.

Try an organic hair mask mix this weekend. Smash the following in a bowl: an avacado, a little olive oil or almond oil (whichever you have),  and run through hair. Leave on for 30 minutes, preferably under plastic cap or hot towel for healing your winter tresses.

Two. Practice and perfect your hot iron.

Make your stay at home night count: finally teach yourself to perfect that iron. Have a glass of red wine, sit in front of your mirror with truffles, and have fun and practice rocking your look so you can whip it up in no time as soon as it's party time again (and someone has cleared that driveway of yours).

Three. Shop for a new look.

Go through your clothes and match things up differently, then Google yourself into a new hairstyle. Revise your look in time for Valentine's Day. Now's the time, while all is white and quiet out, to get to the little, fun things we never have time for.

From Sex and the City 2 to Rachel Getting Married, from The Sorcerer's Apprentice to Bride Wars, Frank Barbosa has styled some of the biggest celebrities in film, TV, and theater. He's been in the industry for 17 years, moving from hip neighborhoods in Chicago, to Boston's Newbury St, to Bellevue Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island. He maintains that his real passion, though, is being behind a salon chair.
