The LOOK: Trends from NY Fashion Week

Saturday, September 24, 2011

He was the lead hair stylist on Sex and the City 2, he made Anne Hathaway fabulous on film, and he's GoLocalProv's weekly style expert. Frank Barbosa, the Newport-based celebrity stylist, brings red carpet perspective to hair, makeup, and overall style.

This past week I was lucky enough to attend Fashion Week NY, seeing that I am working on a project here in the city. I am excited to return back to Newport bringing with me that NY creative spirit. Meanwhile, hot from the runways...

The days are fading when a good straight blowout was all the rage. Now we are going for a more realistic, flowing look that looks great when layering clothes for fall and winter.

A look to copy: Clip up the top of hair at the crown naturally, the blow dry hair without round brush for texture, then everything on top blow out with brush and let drape over your natural texture. Think a layering look with your hair that's similar to clothes layering.

Another alternative after natural blow-out, use different irons (flat and curling) to put different textures into your locks.

Being around all the amazing fashion this past week and seeing where clothing is going, I feel that flat, deflated hair can be just that when sporting the upcoming fashions, so big textured hair (but still polished!) is the new fall trend.

And of course whatever makes you happy on the inside and out is the most fashionable couture around.x

From Sex and the City 2 to Rachel Getting Married, from The Sorcerer's Apprentice to Bride Wars, Frank Barbosa has styled some of the biggest celebrities in film, TV, and theater. He's just finished styling on location alongside film stylist Alan D'Angerio on the film, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, starring Jennifer Garner. He's been in the industry for 17 years, moving from hip neighborhoods in Chicago, to Boston's Newbury St, to Bellevue Avenue in Newport. He maintains that his real passion, though, is being behind a salon chair at Frank Antonio Hair and Makeup in Newport.
