The LOOK: Your Signature Look

Going strong with your best asset is what will put you ahead of the pack in terms of personal style. Don't be afraid to experiment. Photo: nicolecolecole/flickr

He was the lead hair stylist on Sex and the City 2, he made Anne Hathaway fabulous on film, and he's GoLocalWorcester's weekly style expert. Frank Barbosa, the Newport-based celebrity stylist, brings red carpet perspective to hair, makeup, and overall style.

It's time to break out of the mold and create your own signature look!

Just the other day I was working with an A-list actress who is also a fashion icon, and we were talking about how boring hair and makeup is right now in the celebrity world, being that everyone is sporting the same look right now.

She taught me a valubale lesson in my craft that i will forward onto you: the ones who stand out are always a couple steps ahead in their look. So basically, this means it's time to change and break away from the norm.

Here are some steps to take to break away and set your own signature look.

1. Identify your asset

Find your asset, whether it be a streak of grey or blonde, a natural wave, curl, or perfectly straight head of hair. It doesn't matter what it is, but play it up!

2. Look for the highlight

Consider your other beauty assets. Is it your lips, then perhaps a bright lip on full, pouty lips is all you really need. You have a beauty mark? Play it up! Lashes for days? You get the idea!

3. Experiment

Don't be afraid to experiment, mining your confident, new look. The more you try new looks, the more comfortable you'll be inhabiting your new style.

From Sex and the City 2 to Rachel Getting Married, from The Sorcerer's Apprentice to Bride Wars, Frank Barbosa has styled some of the biggest celebrities in film, TV, and theater. He's just finished styling on location alongside film stylist Alan D'Angerio on the film, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, starring Jennifer Garner. He's been in the industry for 17 years, moving from hip neighborhoods in Chicago, to Boston's Newbury St, to Bellevue Avenue in Newport. He maintains that his real passion, though, is being behind a salon chair at Frank Antonio Hair and Makeup in Newport.
