10 to Watch in 2016: StartUp Worcester

Worcester Chamber President and CEO, Tim Murray said about the creation and growth of StartUp Worcester, “As part of our recruit, retain, incubate approach to organizing our work, we thought it was important to support these budding companies. We want to retain these bright, entrepreneurial graduates and help them to incubate their ideas in Worcester.  By providing them access to the resources afforded by our partnerships, the Chamber, The Venture Forum, and Running Start will help to secure Worcester’s future as a great place to do business.”

Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce's Higher Education - Business Partnership  announced the second year of its StartUp Worcester 2016 initiative that supports local, entrepreneurial college and university graduates to help launch business concepts.

At the creation of the program, Ryan Leary, co-founder of Running Start, said, “At Running Start our goal is to provide a collaborative workspace for entrepreneurs, startups, and innovative minds. Complementing this with access to the Chamber really takes these members to the next level. Access to the programming and connections they offer is invaluable.”

The ranking for the city for tech jobs is improving and Milken ranked Worcester better than Boston. "Economic good news came to Worcester from California as the City’s economic performance received affirmation from Milken Institute’s ranking of best performing cities. This ranking is considered highly credible and focused on measures most aligned with the future economy.

In this, the 2015 edition, Worcester jumped to an impressive 37th in the country ahead of Boston. Moreover, Worcester scored will in many of the most critical measures. Most impressively, the Worcester area improved 57 slots in the rankings to 37th overall."
