4 Central Mass Businesses Named 2012’s Best Places to Work

Over 1,500 businesses competed in the rankings to show who had the best workplaces. Businesses were ranked by their employees on their direction, execution, connection, managers, work, and pay and benefits. They were also broken down into small, medium, large, and largest companies.
Globoforce
Southborough, MA
#1 for Small Businesses
Southborough company, Globoforce, specializes in employee recognition strategies and topped the list of small private businesses for its innovation and regard for its employees. Of its 73 employees, 52 are employed in Massachusetts.
The company also has a site in Dublin, Ireland and has worked with clients around the world such as JetBlue, Dow Chemical, and Symantec to help them build their social media and mobile recognition, manage performance, and drive engagement.

Globoforce says its internal program, Globostars, recognizes employee performance that aligns to the company’s core values of imagination, determination, innovation, and respect. The program connects employees every day and empowers them to recognize each other for deserving behaviors.
Integrated Financial Partners
Worcester, MA
#7 for Medium-Sized Businesses
Worcester’s claim to fame on the list, Integrated Financial Partners, comes in at the 7th spot in its category, and Vice President of marketing and Financial Planner, Jill Anderson, said that their family-oriented practices are what really set their company aside.
“The work we do – financial planning doesn’t sound very fun or exciting, but when you help someone’s financial health, it impacts them and sometimes generations to come,” she said. “You get a feeling of what you’re doing is important, and it feels good coming in and helping generations of people. You know what you’re doing is important.”
Integrated Financial Partners isn’t just concerned about their clients’ families, but also those of their employees.
“Most of the people here feel very empowered. The clients just come first, and everybody digs in so you have a feeling of worth when you’re here so that translates into job satisfaction,” Anderson said. “There’s good office support. My assistant went out in maternity leave and is now working part time. The way we see it, this is a big deal in someone’s life, so because we all pitch in to help, your family comes first. We’ll be flexible.”
Anderson also said that their company is flexible, not just in terms of helping employees with emergencies and family issues, but also with job descriptions, making everyone feel equal.
Central Mass, she said, brings all the benefits of an urban area like Boston, without the traffic.
“The reality is that there are talented people and strong businesses in the heart of Massachusetts. From this location we can easily serve clients all over New England.”
To stay successful, Anderson said they pay close attention to their social media outreach and catering to their audience.
Fidelity Bank
Leominster, MA
#19 for Medium-Sized Businesses
Fidelity Bank, located in Leominster is a cooperative/mutual banking company that employs 115 people in Massachusetts at its seven locations, serving Fitchburg, Gardner, Leominster, Millbury, Shirley and Worcester.
Since 1888, Fidelity Bank has remained a growing independent company in Central Massachusetts, offering a range of banking, investment and insurance products to families, individuals, businesses and entire communities
Today, Fidelity Bank has total assets of $517 million and a net worth nearly two times the minimum regulatory requirement.
Consigli Construction Co.
Milford, MA
#13 for Large Businesses
Consigli Construction, New England’s largest self-performing builder came in at number 13, right behind the famously fun employer, Google. They operate out of two Massachusetts locations, one being the Central Mass town of Milford. Of the private company’s 650 employees, 350 work in Massachusetts.
Their local work isn’t the only recognition they have had. Consigli Construction Co., Inc.’s Portland, Maine office was ranked second in the “Best Places to Work in Maine” large firm category for 2012. The firm has been ranked as one of the top ten places to work in Maine for five years.
Consigli said through their work, they “provide our clients with the best of both worlds: the hands-on perspective of a genuine builder backed by some of the most advanced systems and services available in the marketplace.”
