Bill Randell’s FlyORH: JetBlue Prices At ORH On Target
Thursday, August 08, 2013
“The airline reported a huge surge in expenses in the past quarter, led by the costs for engine maintenance on its fleet of 58 Embraer (ERJ) E190 jets.”
I also received an email from a reader (thanks for the feedback) concerning the high cost of a ticket he was looking at to fly to Orlando leaving December 27 returning January 3. I decided to look into it. The cost out of ORH for the sole remaining seat was $376 and the return was $160 for a grand total of $535.30.
On the other hand, Boston’s lowest cost for the same dates was $315 (Flight 1249) and $165 (Flight 350) for a grand total of $479.80. The savings out of Boston out of Worcester was $55.50 round-trip. Now add in the cost of parking in Boston, tolls, cost of gas and time/headaches. Personally, I would pay the extra $55.50 for the ticket and fly out of ORH. Bottom line: you may always be able to find a ticket price a little lower somewhere else, but the prices from JetBlue are very competitive.
Let us not forget the benefits either of “buying local”. Supporting the Worcester Airport keeps your monies in our area versus Boston, Providence, Hartford or Manchester. For every $100 spent at local businesses, $45 stays in the local economy, creating jobs and the expanding the city’s tax base.
More importantly, we are less then three months away (November 7 flights begin) from the rebirth of ORH. If we can make ORH-MCO (Orlando) and ORH-FLL (Fort Lauderdale) successful and profitable routes for JetBlue, the possibilities after that are endless. What can you do today to ensure success:
- Sign up for JetBlue frequent flyer program, TrueBlue.
- JetBlue has a currently has a great promotion. If you open a JetBlue AmEx card and spend $1,000 over the first 3 months, you will get a 20,000 TrueBlue points.
- Buy tickets
