Tuesday, November 08, 2016
The event will take place on Wednesday, November 16 starting at 4:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Farewell to Factory Towns?
"Farewell to Factory Towns?" focuses on what took place in North Adams after the Sprague Electric Company moved its operations and left thousands of workers unemployed.
The film is framed in the context of the problems that are faced by all former manufacturing centers and includes footage of former mill towns including Youngstown, Buffalo and Detroit, and points out the circumstances those cities share with North Adams.
"Farewell to Factory Towns?" includes interviews with labor activists, artists new to the community, local historians, the last CEO of Sprague Electric, high school students, the mayor of North Adams, and the director of the UMass Labor Center.
