Congressman Langevin to Host Forum for Women-Owned Small Businesses

Thursday, March 03, 2011

Congressman James Langevin invites Rhode Island women in small business to a forum designed completely for them.

The “Women in Small Business Forum” will be held Thursday, March 24, at CCRI's Warwick campus, and is open now for registration.

The forum is not only for small women-owned businesses but also for women who would like to start a small business, say organizers. Further, the forum offers assistance on how to maneuver through the current economic downturn and come up whole. The goals are to focus on changes to federal programs that encourage women to apply for federal contracts, specifically the Women-Owned Small Business program with the Small Business Administration; to learn about the varied state programs, and local resources that are available.

Prominent speakers scheduled

Speakers include Mark Hayward of the US Small Business Administration, RI's newly elected General Treasurer Gina Raimondo, and Merrill Sherman, President and CEO of Bank RI. Women who have gone through the process of starting a small business and are thriving in Rhode Island will be featured as well, including Juana Horton of the Hispanic American Chamber of Commerce of Rhode Island and Leslie Taito of the Rhode Island Manufacturing Extension Service (RIMES).

To RSVP, as space is limited, contact 732-9400.
