Karen Adams Goodbye Party
Thursday, December 09, 2010
On Thursday, December 16th, Karen will be the guest of honor at the television studio in East Providence that insiders tell me is strictly by invitation only. The plan as of now is to have the bash in a place Karen has spent a lot of time considering she is retiring after a remarkable 22-year run at the station. Rhode Island trivia question: Who did Karen take over for when she joined Walter Cryan on the news desk years ago? Answer below at the end of this column.
Back to the party. It will be held from 5:30pm to 8:30pm and will include hors d’oeuvres and cocktails starting at 5:30pm. Expect Rhode Island VIP’s to be attendance for sure. Those who make the guest list will be treated to a behind the scene tour of the station and also the chance to watch Karen anchor the 6pm news live in the studio which will be exciting for people who have never watched a live newscast. The station also plans to highlight Karen’s work in a video tribute and the contributions she had made to the station and also just as important, the community during her tenure. It’s unclear at this point if her co-anchor, Walter Cryan will be in attendance.
LEAVING ON HER OWN
Karen says she is leaving on her own and is said to be looking forward to life after TV. Her plans include travel, golf and to continue the good charity work she has done. Karen’s last broadcast will be December 30th which is not that far away. The job of finding her replacement, not an easy job mind you, goes on. It will be a hard person to replace given how hard Karen has worked to win over Southern New England viewers. Hopefully station management makes a big deal of the milestone she has achieved. In the rough world of television, surviving 22-months is an accomplishment – never mind 22-years at one station.
Trivia question answer: Janice Glynn was the one anchoring with Walter Cryan prior to Karen Adams.
