Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis and RIEDC Offer Help Sharpening Your Business Skills

Four free workshops will be offered this week from Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis, and the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC).

The workshops are offered through “We Mean Business,” which is a joint venture between the Secretary of State’s First Stop Business Information Center and the RIEDC. We Mean Business connects business owners with the local, state, and federal agencies and non-profit organizations that impact their companies.

The Secretary of State's office works with more than 60,000 companies registered to do business in Rhode Island. The office oversees recording commercial liens, protecting corporate trademarks and providing advice to start-up businesses.

Daniel J. Holmander of Barlow, Josephs, & Holmes will present “Protecting Your E-Commerce Website Using Intellectual Property”

Tues., April 26th, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at RI Center For Innovation and Entrepreneurship, 1 Davol Sq., Providence. This workshop will review issues to consider before launching an e-commerce website and using intellectual property rights to protect the sites. In addition, the workshop will address ownership issues, general notices and disclaimers.

Gil Lantini of Focus Business Solutions will present "QR Codes – What Are They and How Can They Benefit Your Business" 

Tues., April 26, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at RIEDC, 315 Iron Horse Way, Ste. 101, Providence. This workshop will explore the various uses for Quick Response codes and how this growing technology is being used globally for marketing purposes.

Lantini will also present “Websites 101” 

Thurs., April 28, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at RIEDC. The workshop will explore registering a domain name, creating a web strategy, analyzing web traffic and website promotion.


David Lucier of Lucier CPA and David Nash of Engage Marketing will present "How to Start and Run a Successful Small Business"

Wed., April 27, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 875 Centerville Rd., Building 2, Unit 5, Warwick. This workshop will review tax-reduction strategies, 20 pitfalls to starting and running a small business and how to price products and services.
