With this in mind, CareerTrends — part of the Graphiq network — found the 10 best jobs for independent people. We used the most recent data from O*Net, an occupational database sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor, to make our occupations selections.

O*Net assigns scores in various categories for each occupation based on the results to survey questions sent out to employers. For this list, we focused on the responses to the following survey question: "Job requires developing one's own ways of doing things, guiding oneself with little or no supervision, and depending on oneself to get things done." The answers were scored on a scale from 1 to 5, and we're calling each occupation's score on this response the "Independence Score." All salary, employment and job description data comes from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Many of the best jobs for independent people are in the education field — most professors have a good amount of latitude to set their own curriculum and go about their day-to-day duties with little interference. All 10 occupations scored above a 4.7 out of 5 on the O*Net survey question.
