Worcester Sharks Host Jobs Fair

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

For the second consecutive year, the Workforce Central Career Centers will team with the Worcester Sharks to host a job fair at Worcester’s DCU Center.

The fair, taking place on March 16th, will feature over 2,000 employment opportunities from all around the Commonwealth in the fields of health care, bioresearch, education, engineering and more. Admission to the job fair is free, and the Sharks will be offering buy-one-get-one-free ticket deals for their game that night against the Providence Bruins.

“We were overwhelmed by the response we got from the first event last year,” Eric Lindquist, the Sharks’ Director of Public Relations said. “We had over 1,500 people attend the job fair last year, and we got such great feedback from the employers at the event. We’re expecting another large crowd this year, and as long as people keep coming to them, we’ll keep doing them.”

The Workforce Central Career Centers are located in Worcester, Milford and Southbridge, and use the event to continue their year-long goal of providing job seekers with quality resources, assistance and support to get back into the workforce. Lindquist said 79 Central Massachusetts businesses will be in attendance, and the event is just another way that the Sharks reach out to the Worcester community.

“You know, we are always looking for creative ways to get involved in Worcester,” Lindquist said. “We host around 300 community events throughout our season, and this is just another one of those.”

The job fair is scheduled to run from 1-5 p.m. and the Sharks’ game against Providence, also in the DCU Center, will begin at 7:30 p.m. The game has been designated as “Local Heroes Night,” and the Sharks will honor local veterans and public safety officials. A new group of U.S. Army recruits will also be sworn into service at center ice during the game.
