McGovern Named One of 50 Most Powerful People in Food

Friday, January 30, 2015

The Daily Meal has named Congressman Jim McGovern one of the 50 Most Powerful People in Food in 2015

On his Facebook page, McGovern said, "Never in my life expected to be on a list with the likes of Chef Jose Andres, Chef Alice Waters and Jimmy Fallon..."

McGovern fell in at #25 on the list, thanks to his work with "End Hunger Now," a series of speeches focused on hunger issues in the United States.

The Daily Meal writes, "U.S Representative Jim McGovern, representing Massachusetts’ second congressional district, is also co-chair of both the House Hunger Caucus and the Congressional Hunger Center. At the House Hunger Caucus, he’s an advocate for expanding child nutrition programs and obtained more than $800 million in funding for hunger programs, and he’s pushed for the creation of a “hunger czar” position to tackle food insecurity at the Congressional Hunger Center."

Other notable names on the list include Michelle and President Barack Obama, Rachel Ray, and Howard Schultz, CEO of Starbucks.

As GoLocal reported on Thursday, McGovern has recently been named Democratic Ranking Member on the House Committee on Agriculture's Subcommittee on Nutrition.
