Nu Cafe - A New Spot to Unwind After Work

Friday, June 01, 2012

If you’re looking for a new place to unwind after a long day of work, Worcester’s Nu Café is adding the perfect solutions to its menu.

Starting June 7th, the local eatery will be changing up its image. While they will still be a purveyor of paninis, smoothies and coffee Nu Café will be adding beer, wine, and a selection of savory appetizers to their after five o’clock menu.

Their launch party which starts on the 7th at 6:00 p.m. will celebrate their new late options and their dedication to local choices. There will be live, local entertainment, trivia questions, and gift car giveaways.

“We’re trying to incorporate local stuff into our menu and serve local craft beer, like Wormtown. We will be featuring some of their beers. We’re going to use some other products from New England,” said proprietor Joshua Van Dyke. “We also have local musicians and a local comedians and performers coming to celebrate at this event.”

Local Support

Van Dyke sees the importance of supporting local initiatives.

“A lot of it is just being a part of the community. As owner and manager, I can say that we’re always wanting to get in connection locally,” he said. “We have local art hanging on the walls. For me it’s important to support the community because they’re the ones supporting us. We want to differentiate and be imbedded in the community.”

After Work Hours

While Nu Café is already open during these hours, they’re looking to draw the after work crowd and use their space as a relaxing venue.

“Right now we’re really busy during the day. Nights are okay, but not everyone wants to have a panini at night. We want people to see this as a place to relax after work. Between six and seven o’clock, that’s what people are looking for,” Van Dyke said. “We have a big open space and good atmosphere. We think that the addition of beer and wine and some other food options will lend itself well for people coming in, and we could really create a buzz.”
