Arvizu: All Parents and Babies Can Benefit From A Little Music Therapy
Thursday, March 05, 2015
When we participate in active music engagement with a board certified music therapist, such as Kayla Daly of Worcester Music Therapy (LINK http://www.musicwmts.com) - it can lower stress, teach us new and exciting ways to bond with our kids and give us that break from parenting we desperately need sometimes.
Stacey Cheney noticed the benefits of music therapy after just a few sessions. “My son’s mood instantly changes when we sing, dance and play music together,” Cheney said. “Going to the groups has given us a fun outlet. He loves discovering new noises and interacting with others.” When people participate in music together either as a family or in a group setting, it becomes a unifying activity that brings everyone into a state of cohesiveness.
Like Stacey, mom Jacqui Voss also started coming to music group as a way to socialize. “I was amazed at how vocal my daughter would become at music group,” Voss explains. “She seemed so happy to be singing along with the other babies.” Not only do babies learn to sing along, they can also match pitch using their voice and mimic rhythm on a drum.
Attending Playtime Music Group at Wild Orchid Baby (LINK http://www.wildorchidbaby.com) is a fun way for parents and babies to get out of the house and come together, but what is really going on? Music therapist Kayla Daly explains, “Music is processed throughout the entire brain and body making it a complete multi-sensory learning experience. So engaging in song and movement promotes healthy language, motor and neural development.”
Whether you’re feeling the winter the blues and just need to get out of the house, are looking to make new friends for you and your baby, or want to learn new ways to incorporate music into daily life, join us at Playtime Music Group every Tuesday at 1pm at Wild Orchid Baby. $10 gets you 45 minutes of music therapy, aka fun for you and your baby led by Kayla Daly of Worcester Music Therapy.
