Thursday, February 26, 2015
The Regional Environmental Council of Central Massachusetts received a $30,000 grant for the Worcester mobile farmers market. The REC's farmer's markets provide fresh and local produce to the communities they service.
The Worcester Public Library Foundation also received $30,000, and the grant was used to open a library branch at the Tatnuck Magnet Elementary School. There is a possibility that the Foundation will also provide an additional two years of funding.
The Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation supports organizations that "promote nutrition, healthy eating, and physical activity" in an effort to prevent child obesity. Since its founding in 1980, the Foundation has given out nearly $133 million in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Its goal is to provide "the tools , training, and leadership to help build healthy communities."
