Nursing Team at Women and Infants Honored in Modern Healthcare

Saturday, January 08, 2011

A team of nurses at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island has received an Honorable Mention Spirit of Excellence Award for Team, as announced in Modern Healthcare. The award was presented for the implementation of Careline, a program created and implemented by the nursing team on the Mother/Baby Units to recognize employees who go above and beyond in delivering care and supporting patients.

Careline was implemented in February 2010.  In the first eight months, the Careline received phone messages and emails from staff members, patients and family members thanking 71 different nurses and nursing assistants for their work.

“Recognizing employee excellence is a top priority at Women & Infants Hospital. But when that recognition comes directly from patients and families, it is all the more special,” said Constance A. Howes, president and chief executive officer.  “This direct feedback gives our staff greater awareness of exactly how their actions affect their patients.  It boosts morale, promotes teamwork, and is definitely a factor in patient satisfaction.”

The Spirit of Excellence awards program, co-sponsored by Sodexo Health Care Services, spotlights creative and innovative programs that support organizational excellence, patient satisfaction, customer service, employee satisfaction, commitment, and community participation.
