Spring Allergies: Early + Extreme

For many in Worcester, the first weeks of spring bring beautiful weather and a chance to enjoy some fun outside. But, for those residents that suffer from allergies, this time of year can bring itchy eyes, sore throats and endless sneezing, largely due to the newly blooming trees.

GoLocalWorcester spoke with doctors from two area hospitals to give you all you need to know about an allergy season that has come on strong and early this year.

Dr. Stephen Krinzman of UMass Memorial Medical Center:

What types of allergens are currently around?

In the spring, there are typically tree pollens. One thing to remember is that the pollens can blow for many miles, so it may not be the trees in you yard that are actually causing you symptoms. .

In the summer, the grass pollens are out and in the fall, we see weeds like ragweed. If you experience year-round problems, you may need to look at sources in your home, such as cats, dogs, molds or dust mites.
