Talking About the Taboo: Sexual Health Conference This Weekend

Saturday, October 09, 2010

Not satiated by your high school sex ed class? On Sunday, October 10th, the Center for Sexual Pleasure and Health in Pawtucket will host its second annual conference, "Talking About the Taboo." This event will offer "sexuality education to adults in a safe and open environment" and is open to the public.

The topic of this year’s conference was inspired by an observation from Megan Andelloux, founder and director of the center, that adults struggle to ascertain what is "acceptable" to talk about with others and what is not. “Even among sex educators, there are still topics discussed that you need to lean in and whisper about,” says Andelloux. “If everyone’s talking about it, why not talk about it openly?”

Local sexuality experts will be featured at the event, including sex educator and human sexuality professor Dr. Charlie Glickman; sexuality and aging specialist Dr. Anita Hoffer; sexologist and author Dr. Logan Levkoff; and many others.

The conference is open to adults 18+. An expert panel discussion will be featured as well as a choice of two 40-minute workshops with the experts. There will also be information booths featuring many local resources. “There will be a large community presence,” Andelloux explained. “You can connect with local organizations supporting sexual rights, sexual health, and sexual freedom.”

"Talking About the Taboo," Sunday October 10, 1-5pm, at the Center for Sexual Pleasure and Health, 250 Main St, The Grant Building, Pawtucket. Suggested donation of $5 for students and $10 for non-students. For event details, go here.
