UMass Medical Center to Hold Free Kidney Screenings
Friday, March 04, 2016
There are no appointments necessary and the screenings are free and open to the public.
“Early stage kidney disease is especially dangerous because there are no real symptoms. Simple tests can help identify and treat the disease before it becomes life-threatening,” said Konstantin Abramov, MD, Chronic Kidney Disease Program Director, Renal Division.
According to the center, more than 10% of the American population suffers from chronic kidney disease, and it is the 9th leading cause of death in the United States.
This is the 4th year that the UMass Memorial Medical Center Division of Renal Medicine is offering screenings. The screenings consist of a quick questionnaire regarding risk factors, and if applicable, a blood pressure and urine sample check with a physician consultation as needed.
