Monday, February 08, 2016
The building has recently been under demolition because of concerns over structural safety and the cost of maintenance.
The building has been out of circulation for the last several years.
“Our Burbank campus will continue to meet the needs of our patients and provide high quality care to our community. Services in the Simmons Building, the building adjacent to the Bullock Building include; Burbank Urgent Care, Lab, Radiology, and Physical Therapy Plus including sports medicine. The regional flagship in cancer care is located at the Simonds-Sinon Regional Cancer Center as well as the Simonds-Hurd Complementary Care Center. HealthAlliance Fitchburg Family Practice is also located on our Burbank Campus,” stated Deborah Weymouth, President & CEO UMass Memorial – HealthAlliance Hospital.
Short Term plans moving forward with the space on campus include a relaxation garden and to build a community space to be utilized for educational and training programs focused on the health and wellness needs of the community.
“We look forward to the opportunity to continue collaborating with our community partners with projects regarding improving the health status of our region in the newly constructed community room,” said Weymouth.
Time Capsule Found
UMass Memorial - HealthAlliance Hospital also recently announced that Northeast Remediation, LLC, discovered a time capsule in a capstone that had been placed in the building by Curtin & Riley in 1953.
An unveiling of the time capsule will occur later in the spring.
