Worcester Man Finds Solution for Caregivers

Wednesday, April 22, 2015

Following the death of his father, John Harris of Worcester decided to open a business that would offer help to people seeking care.

Harris said, “I am a problem solver and I saw this as an opportunity to help people solve problems that would help (others) continue to live out their lives where they felt the most comfortable while maintaining their dignity and independence.”

Leaving the career of accountant behind him, Harris opened Caregiver Advantage Services, Incorporated in 2013. His company offers reliable resources and unique services that Harris was unable to find while his father was suffering from cancer and a stroke.

“After my dad passed and I was able to return to my life, I watched the other loved ones live through the same experience I had with my dad.  When I decided to leave my job and start this journey, I did not look at it as I was leaving behind anything.  I looked at it as I was continuing a new chapter in my career,” said Harris.

Caregiver Advantage Services is headquartered in Worcester, but serves clients in Worcester, Leominster, Framingham, Boston, Lynn, Brockton, Newton, Quincy, Lowell, and Springfield.

Harris wants caregivers to choose to work with him because of his own experience and his want to use the lessons he learned to make their experience a more positive one.

Harris says, “My goal is to grow the company organically to be the local provider of choice in the markets we service that provide real choices to families and seniors navigating aging in place while providing our caregivers with flexibility in scheduling and a wage rate that helps them focus on providing the very best care.”

Caregiver Advantage Services has implemented three very useful tools to improve their clients experience:

1. Video profiles of all caregivers which allow families and seniors to view free of charge.

2. A full range of services and referral services to enable families to choose the type of care that will most benefit them.

3. A secured portal so families can stay connected to and share information with all members of the care team - caregivers, medical professionals and other family members who may be living remotely but want to stay informed and connected.
