WPS Food Initiative Mentioned in National School Nutrition Journal
Saturday, March 14, 2015
According to the story, Lombardi, with help from the Worcester County Food Bank and Stop & Shop, was able to attain a grant to obtain a food truck to begin delivering meals to summer recreation sites that city children would be at. The food truck delivers food to every public library in Worcester and to two city pools.
In 2013, the truck served 4,100 meals. In 2014, that number more than tripled to 13,000.
Lombardi told School Nutrition Magazine, "In 2015, we are planning to add the Family Housing authorities and two YMCA summer camps to our delivery schedule. The YMCA staff are ecstatic that meals will be delivered at meal time, with serving and counting functions performed by the driver and assistant!"
