Central Mass. Lacrosse Teams Raise Over $4,600 for Boston Victims

The Northbridge boys lacrosse team came up with the idea to construct a Boston Strong Classic.
Westborough, Northbridge, Blackstone Valley, and Grafton teamed up to play in the Boston Strong Classic, collecting donations at the gate for a one day doubleheader that raised over $4,600 for The One Fund on behalf of the four schools that took part in the event. The One Fund was constructed by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino in hopes of easing the pain of those affected by the tragedy.
The Classic was hosted by Grafton High School at Kevin Vulter Field, but the idea for the event was that of the Northbridge boys lacrosse team, who were looking to fulfill their annual community service project.
To show support for and to pay tribute to the victims of this tragedy, all players partaking in the Classic wore a Boston Strong sticker on their helmet.
Grafton took the first game of the doubleheader on Friday afternoon, as they beat Westborough High School by a score of 17-9. Seniors Bryan Rotatori and Sawyer Coleman, as well as freshman Chase Kapuscienski each netted four goals, while senior Tyler Reilly added three goals of his own.
In the nightcap of the doubleheader, Northbridge High School was able to sneak by Blackstone Valley by the slim margin of 3-2, with both teams struggling to find the back of the net. Northbridge's Braden Burt scored with 8:17 remaining in the game to break the stalemate and give the Rams the win.
On the field adjacent to Kevin Vulter Field, each high school's junior varsity team played as well with the hopes of more people donating to this great cause. Judging by the amount of money that the four schools raised, the move definitely paid off.
