George
Age: Adult
Breed(s): Shar Pei & Pug Mix
Meet George! George is a 50 lb. 4-year-old mixed breed dog who was surrendered by his owner because she was moving and couldn't take him with her. Broken Tail was told that his mom was a Shar Pei/Pug and his dad was most likely a Jack Russell Terrier.
George is very well behaved. He is housetrained, loves his crate, and likes to spend his days outdoors in an outside kennel or fenced yard. He knows hand signals for "sit", "down", and can give "paw" as well as "other paw". George is good with other dogs and kids, and loves to play with empty water bottles, so he's easy to please! He also loves to play fetch and is really good at it as he brings whatever you throw right back and drops it at your feet.
Snickers
Age: Adult
Breed(s): Domestic Shorthair
Meet Snickers. He's a shy, older kitten. He did not get enough attention when he was tiny, so it takes him a while to warm up to humans. He needs an experienced cat adopter or someone really patient and committed to helping him learn to trust his new people. Snickers's new home should have another playful kitty to show him the ropes and to let him know it's okay to be a crazy kitty.
Victor
Age: Adult
Breed(s): Miniature Pinscher
Victor is a sweet guy who was found as a stray in western MA. Victor is probably between 6-8 years old and he gets along wonderfully with other dogs and cats. He's good in a crate and appears to be housetrained.
Victor was just diagnosed with diabetes, and he is being started on twice-daily injections of insulin (which he is taking like a champ!). His meds are very inexpensive—100 needles for $20 and a six-month vial of insulin for $25—and very simple to administer.
Tessa
Age: Under 1 year old
Breed(s): Domestic Shorthair
Meet Tessa, a shy FIV+ girl whose under a year old. She was found as a stray in Dorchester, but this girl wasn't meant to live on the streets. She's sweet and gets along very well with her foster brother and sisters (cats and a dog). She needs a home whose patient and gives her time to come out of her shell. Tessa needs to go into a home with a friendly cat to help with her adjustment.
Dougie
Age: Young
Breed(s): Pit Bull Terrier
Hi! My name is Dougie. I'm a bit of a local celebrity...you might have seen me on CBS Boston's Pet Parade! I'm just the sweetest, gentlest boy you'll ever meet. While I'm just under 50 lbs, I still think I'm a lapdog and will take any opportunity to snuggle with you.
At 8-9 months, I am still young so I have lots of energy and enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities. At the dog park, I make fast friends. Outside of the park, I love to go hiking and am learning to run on-leash. When it comes to training, I'm all about the snacks. If you've got a tasty treat, you've got my full attention. Right now, I am perfecting my 'sit' and 'down' but I am looking forward to learning even more commands with your help!
Dutchy
Age: Adult
Breed(s): Chihuahua mix
Meet Dutchy! Dutchy is a super cute little chihuahua who weighs about 6 lbs. At 8 years old, Dutchy is missing a family of his own. He came in when his owner passed away and spent a few months in the shelter before going to Broken Tail Rescue.
Dutchy loves his walks and his house trained. He loves other dogs, but will occasionally lunge at cats to keep them on their toes. Dutchy needs some time to warm up to new people, but will warm up within a few hours. Still, Dutchy would best be suited for a quiet home without too many visitors or kids.
Dutchy loves to give kisses and will lick your hand for hours if you let him. He is skittish when having his leash put on. Overall he is a nervous guy with a lot of potential for love and companionship. He loves soft treats and is very food motivated.
Mika
Age: Adult
Breed(s): American Pit Bull Terrier/Hound Mix
Hi! My name is Mika and I am around 5 years old. I'm smaller than I look in pictures—only about 40 pounds, and I'm full grown! I have been waiting a LONG time for a forever home...I spent about 3 years in a shelter and the last six months in foster homes, but I want to meet the family that will keep me forever. I love people, and am really wonderful with kids! I don't really love other animals though, so I'm looking to be an only pet. I am fully housebroken, very polite, and great in my crate.
I am hoping you are someone who enjoys going for casual walks, car rides, and hanging out on the couch with your special dog friend. I love to roll in the grass and soak up the sun. And nothing is better than having my belly rubbed! I am looking for someone that enjoys what I do and will love me as much as I will love them. By the way, I am spayed, vet checked, vaccinated, de-wormed, flea treated, tested for heartworm disease and microchipped.
