Joy of Music Youth Orchestra

There is plenty going on around Worcester to keep you busy this weekend. From music to art, there are events for all ages. 

This weekend’s events include music form the Youth Orchestra, Die Fiedermaus at Mechanics Hall, the Worcester Railers and more.

Live-08 Youth Spoken Word Poetry Open Mic

Youth Spoken Word Poetry Non-Profit Mass LEAP is working with 5 Worcester Area teens, in a paid mentorship program throughout the school year. 

These youth leaders have created a new 4th Friday Youth Open Mic Event Series for local poets and spoken word artists. 

The Live-08 is a monthly open mic series, hosted by young people, for young people. Free & open to the public. Adults are welcome to attend and support, but the mic slots are for youth writers only. 

The event goes from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Night Lights Display at Tower Hill Botanic Garden

Last chance to see the Night Lights display before Tower Hill closes for the month of January. 

Night Lights is a walking experience throughout 15 acres of glowing gardens, where more than 200,000 lights have been thematically placed among the trees, shrubs, fountains, and statuary to create a magical winter wonderland celebrating plants and nature.

Maine Mariners vs Worcester Railers at DCU Center

The Worcester Railers return home to host the Maine Mariners on Saturday night. 

The Railers are currently 13-13-3 on the season and in fifth place in the North division. 

The Mariners are in fourth place.

Worcester Art Museum's lumina Exhibit 

lumina is designed by artist Sam Sam Okerstrom-Lang and Vanessa Till Hooper, and produced by LuminArtz.

“Enter a canvas of moving light and color and connect with works from the WAM collection in a new way! Imagine immersing yourself in a stained glass window or a painting and being surrounded by—and even part of—a cascade of shimmering, radiant, moving light and color. lumina is made of dozens of strips of illuminated silk that reflect projected images of five WAM works of art. Visitors walk through the silk and become part of the animated color and light,” says the Worcester Art Museum on their website.

Joy of Music Youth Orchestra Concert at Joseph & Jordan Shapiro Concert Hall

The Joy of Music Youth Orchestra (JYO) is a vibrant youth orchestra of high school students from all over Central Massachusetts who rehearse at Joy of Music, Worcester's Community Music School. 

This outstanding orchestra will be performing  Mozart's Overture from the Magic Flute, Danse Macabre by Saint-Saens and Beethoven's Symphony No. 7.
