It is the first weekend in November and there is plenty to do for people of all ages in Worcester. 

This weekend’s events include a Veterans Day Concert at Union Station, a Veterans Day Celebration at Old Sturbridge Village and a Backgammon Tournament.

Veterans Day Concert at Union Station 

The concert will feature performances by the Worcester Youth Symphony Orchestra Jonathan Brennand, Music Director & Conductor
& the South High Community School Concert Band Johnetta Smith, Director. 

Program to include music by Irving Berlin, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Aaron Copland, Tchaikovsky and Samuel Ward's setting of America the Beautiful. In addition, the combined ensembles will perform the Songs of the Services.

The concert goes from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Glassblowing Apothecary Jars at Worcester Center for Crafts 

After learning the safety and studio etiquette rules, students will watch a brief demonstration of this 2000-year-old art before diving in and making their very own apothecary jar from glass gathered out of a 2100-degree furnace.

Students will choose their own colors and instructors will guide the class through the steps from gathering to applying colors, from blowing a bubble to shaping their own apothecary jar.

Educators will then demonstrate the process of making a matching glass lid. No experience is necessary and all materials are included. 

The event goes from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Veterans Day at Old Sturbridge Village

To celebrate Veterans Day, Old Sturbridge Village will present special activities celebrating the nation's military history.

See how lead musket balls were cast in the Small House, and get your initials stamped on your own musket ball at the Blacksmith Shop.

Meet a U.S.S. Constitution 1812 surgeon and the U.S.S. Constitution's Marines, listen to fife and drum music, and watch a cannon demonstration.

See how American military uniforms and weapons have changed over the past 300 years and see demonstrations of the weapons. Weather conditions could impact where and how certain activities take place. 

The event goes from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Call to Artists: Fire and Ice

The winter show, "Fire and Ice" is now open for submissions!

Culturally and historically juxtaposition of these diametrically opposing things, the fire element with ice compound, has and can symbolizes many things: the sun and the moon; summer and winter; desire and hatred; the all too familiar scenes of the warmth of heat taking away winter's chill; and appears in songs, literature, and gods and goddesses a numerous pantheons. The exhibit will be presented in conjunction with the City of Worcester's Festival of Lights celebration.

24th Annual Knights Of Vartan Backgammon Tournament at Suney's Pub & Family Restaurant 

Compete in the Knights of Vartan Backgammon Tournament taking place at Suney's Pub and Family Restaurant. 

There will be a First Place Winner cash prize. A cash bar is available along with free mezza. 

If you have a backgammon board, please bring it with you. A limited number of boards will be available for use free-of-charge.
