slides: 10 Unconventional Valentine’s Day Dates
Monday, February 11, 2013
Sick of that same old tradition of dressing up and going out to a fancy dinner on Valentine’s Day, or maybe your significant other is allergic to flowers and you need to find an alternative? Spark you and your date’s imagination by trying a hand at some of these unconventional dates.
Worcester does have a great deal of delicious restaurants, but trying something out of the box will give you and your sweetheart a chance to explore new interests and aspects of your relationship. Heck, it’s bound to be better than some boring table conversation at a candlelit dinner.
Take a Cooking Class
One way to a man’s heart is through his stomach and seeing that your girlfriend has a hand at cooking might be some good knowledge to know down the road. Cooking classes are awesome for getting a better handle on a necessary life skill. You don’t have to be Julia Child to impress your significant other, because cooking together provides a great outlet for creativity and making a delicious meal is a team effort. Afterwards, you can test your newly learned skills and bring some heat into the kitchen by preparing a delicious home cooked meal afterwards. Culinary Underground is holding a Tapas and Wine class from 6:30-9:30p.m. on Valentine's Day, for reservations call 508-904-6589 or visit their website at culinaryunderground.com.

Go to a Comedy Show
Seeing your sweetheart have a good laugh is one of the most heartwarming things for anyone. To avoid the serious dinner table conversation, going to a comedy show is an entertaining way to engage with your date in a fun, light-hearted way. This is also good for a date for new couples, because the best way to get out the jitters is through a few good laughs. Park Grill & Spirits hosts Dick Doherty’s Beantown Comedy Escape on Thursdays from 8:00p.m.-12:00a.m. and admission is $15. If you would like to make a reservation, call 800-401-2221.
Go Ice Skating
If you're not good at ice skating, you get to hold hands with your partner in order to prevent yourself from falling. Ice skating is an adorable way of getting more intimate with your companion. It’s a fun outdoor activity in itself, but being able to do it with your special someone creates a fun bond, and you’ll get a good laugh if one of you falls. The Worcester Common Oval skating rink is open from 1:00-6:00p.m., admission is $2 and skate rentals are available for $3.
Take an Art Class
Another great way to show your creative side is by jumping in on a hands-on art class for your Valentine's Day. Worcester provides a lot of quick art courses that you and your significant other can try out. Plus, the crafts that you create can also make for a great Valentine's gift swap with your loved one. The Worcester Art Museum often holds art classes and events, to get more information, call 508-799-4406 or check out their website at worcesterart.org.
