5 Live Music Musts: Friday, August 23rd
Friday, August 23, 2013
The weekend is here again and that means they are sure to be plenty of live music acts in the area over the next couple of days you'll want to check out. Each week, GoLocalWorcester will highlight five of the best concerts that weekend within an hour's drive (because we know music lovers will make the drive!). Here is the list for this weekend.
The Cult
The Cult is coming to the House of Blues in Boston for a show on Friday. They are a legendary British rock and post-punk band, a smooth fuse of heavy metal, classic rock and the blues, that gained a dedicated following during the 80s. They are still going strong today constantly recording and releasing new albums, and are currently performing on their Electric 13 tour. The show begins at 8 pm. General Admission tickets are $28. VIP tickets are $40. All ages are welcome.
Pousette-Dart Band
If you want a blast from the past this weekend, head down to the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton on Saturday. The Pousette-Dart Band were mainstays on the radio in the 70s with such hits as "Fall On Me", "Amnesia" and "County Line". They still hold their own on classic rock radio today. Tickets are $17.50 in advance and $20 at the door.
Indiana Handshake
Coming to the Lucky Dog Music Hall in Worcester on Friday is one of Providence's most popular local bands, Indiana Handshake. It is Rock and Roll, indie alternative rock to be more exact, for the 21st century, composed of haunting melodies, fiercely innovative guitar, and relentless percussion. They always promise a good time. Bind Your Mother and The Free Hats will also be performing. There is a $6 cover but the event is free with your WOO Card. The concert begins at 8:30 pm.
Niki Luparelli and the Gold Diggers
Good old Niki Luparelli and the Gold Diggers will be performing two shows in one night at Nick's Bar and Restaurant in Worcester on Friday. A written description of Worcester singer Niki Luparelli is likely not sufficient to explain the exceptionally unique approach she takes to her music, but that's why she is so cool. She is a jazz cabaret singer who loves (or is obsessed with) comedy, booze, David Bowie and James Bond. Now is a perfect time to check her out. The first show begins at 7 pm and the next at 9:30 pm. Call ahead for reservations.
Bruce in the USA
Want to experience all a live Bruce Springsteen show has to offer but don't want to break the bank at the same time? Head down to the Paradise Rock Club in Boston on Friday to hear all his greatest hits at the Bruce in the USA Bruce Springsteen Tribute Show. General Admission tickets are $18 plus fees. 18 and over only.
