Guatemalan colors and celebration

Feel fall in the air? Which means it's time for some harvest celebrations, as well as great ethnic festivals and a whole lot more. Here are the five best bets.

Celebrate a bright heritage in Providence

Saturday  The Guatemalan Center of Rhode Island proudly presents a festival celebrating the culture and family unity, and exposing RI's youth, the elderly generation, and other nationalities to Guatemalan cultural traditions. 10am–6pm. Temple of Music, Roger Williams Park, Providence. Call 331-8855 for more information.

Step up for a great cause on Federal Hill

Saturday  Fashionistas already know about local shoe designer Mallory Musante's pop up boutique on Federal Hill; this weekend, everyone should be checking out Musante's Shoes for a Cause event, where 15% of sales will go to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State. More incentive? Guests can save $5 on purchases for bringing in an item of clothing to donate. 10am-7pm, Mallory Musante Shoes' Pop-Up Store, 372 Atwells Avenue, Providence.

Hunt for treasure at the Children's Museum

Friday  Join a special kick-off celebration for Hispanic Heritage Month and its Treasure Hunt as Big as Rhode Island, which introduces families to some of the state's cultural treasures.  At 5:15 and 6:15 PM, enjoy music by Voces de los Andes – vocal and instrumental music of the Andes, performed by youth and leader Silvio Cuellar.  Families can also mingle with Big Nazo puppets, meet live birds and pick up their treasure hunts. 5-8pm, Providence Children's Museum, 100 South St, Providence. For more information go to www.childrensmuseum.org.
