Support the boys in red and blue at McCoy in baseball action
Friday-Sunday
It's a full weekend of local baseball in the house at Pawtucket, from taking on the Rochester Redwings on Friday night to a Saturday double-header and Sunday game v the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees. Plus, fireworks. It's a win in every way. C'mon. It's patriotic. For everything you need to know, go here.
Eat up colonial style at the White Horse Tavern
Monday
Newporters say it's more patriotic than anything in Bristol. That may be up for heated debate, but no one's arguing that this three-course, colonially inspired lunch at Newport's haute-historic White Horse Tavern is the most culinary inspired. Summer pheasant soup... grilled mutton (lamb, really) steak, indian pudding or Martha Washington's Fruit and Sherry cake... this is fare worth fighting for. Founding Fathers Luncheon, $30 per person, the White Horse Tavern, 26 Marlborough St, Newport, 849-3600.
Watch the baby chicks hatch in South County
Monday
It's one of the cutest things ever, watching batches of Rhode Island Red baby chicks gain their independence. Enjoy this rural delight on the lovely grounds of the South County Musuem. Annual Independence Day Rhode Island Red Chick Hatch, South County Museum, Strathmore St, Narragansett, 10am-noon. Call 783-5400 for more information or go to the Museum Web site, here.
Get nostalgic at the Warwick Museum of Art
Friday-Saturday
Who remembers (and loved) the Warwick Musical Theatre? You can't be a Rhode Islander if you don't. Check out Life in the Round - the Warwick Museum of Art's visual tribute to the storied venue that launched a thousand careers... and marriages. Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Rd, Warwick, 737-0010.
Cross over for a night of glam rock and (much) more at Perishable Theatre
Friday-Sunday
Sometimes hope and redemption come in the most surprising packages – like a transgendered glam-rockstar fleeing East Germany in pursuit of love and fame. HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH – the Obie-award-winning rock musical that blew the doors off Perishable Theatre last season – is a thrilling and powerful statement about gender, identity, and love. Part theatre, part rock concert, Hedwig returns with her killer band The Angry Inch this summer at the Trinity Rep's Pell Chafee Performing Arts Center, 87 Empire St, Providence. Tickets on sale at Trinity Rep box office, 351-4242, or online at www.trinityrep.com.
