AfroSonic Collective Determined to Cultivate a Unique Sound

Friday, September 10, 2010

Since 2007, Providence’s own AfroSonic Collective has been reinventing the live, multi-medium entertainment experience with their unique blend of DJs, percussion and performers who have together pioneered a sound with deeply-rooted afro soul beats. While all coming from different DJ-ing backgrounds, the Collective came together determined to cultivate a unique sound and build a community that embraces the idea that music can bring people together and celebrate life in our beautiful city of Providence. Throughout the past three years, the consortium of talent has garnered an expanding fan base by playing myriad venues, including the beer garden at Burnside Park throughout the past summer, offering podcasts via their MySpace and Facebook pages, and in performances at area nightclubs including Forbidden City on Federal Hill and State Ultra Lounge.

Catch Them Live

This Friday, the Collective comes together for AfroSonic JUMP, a night featuring DJs Blackdove, Mikedelick, DubLN and Dupe in addition to Jesus Andujar (from Caliente Summer Nights at Tazza Caffe) and Ceasar Salsa on congas and Vernon Knight tearing it up on the snare drum. Catch AfroSonic Collective tonight at State Lounge, 1 Throop Alley in Providence, 21+ $5 cover, 10pm-2am.
