Wednesday, May 27, 2015

On June 14, Art in the Park will once again trun Worcester's Elm Park into a sculpture park all summer long. Work from nineteen artists have been selected to be displayed from a record 62 entrants.

This year, Art in the Park is doing something new and has invited Worcester Public School students and teachers to also display their work. Participating WPS artists include Catherine Evans, Philip Marshall, Anne Kamilla Alexander, and Susan Champeny and teachers Keri Anderson, Norrback Avenue & Ann Rokosky, New Citizens Center; Jason Harthan, North High School; Alana Juneau, West Tatnuck Elementary & Wawecus Road School; Stacy Lord, Sullivan Middle School; and Mark Tozer, Tatnuck Magnet School.

The event, "Art in the Park, 2015: A Broad Range of Sculpture Voices and A Formal Range of Subjects!" will highlight the works of artists Anne Kamilla Alexander, Taylor Apostol, Freedom Baird, Caroline Bugby, James Burnes, Joe Chirchirillo, Peter Dellert, Donna Dodson, Dan Dowd, Joe Fix, Jay Gibson, John Hooker, Lin Lisberger, Thomas Matsuda, Evan Morse, Bryan Rasmussen, Lisa Simonds, Eric Troffkin, and Bennett Wine.

“Public art poses its own unique set of challenges and opportunities, and the selection of sculpture this year shows strong yet diverse works which variously offer an inviting level of intimacy and a human scale, as well as a sense of the monumental," said Susan Cross, Curator of Visual Arts at MASS MoCA in North Adams.

Opening festivities will take place from 3 PM to 7 PM on the 14th and will be on view at the park until October 11.

Pre-exhibit Event:

June 6 – 9, 2015: Carving of Spiral! Sculptor Anne Kamilla Alexander will be hand carving “Spiral” daily from 9 - Noon and 1:30 - 4:30 PM. Installation takes place on June 9th.
