Auburn’s Kayla Harrity Stars on NESN’s Dirty Water TV

Kayla Harrity, of Auburn, can be seen on Saturday and Sunday nights as a reporter on NESN's Dirty Water TV. The show, which airs at 11:30PM, details the nightlife of Boston and the comings and goings of celebrities in the area.

"The best part is interacting with everyone in Boston," said Harrity, who studied Broadcast Journalism at Emerson College. "From bar owners to patrons, to celebrities like Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg, my favorite part is meeting and interviewing actors and directors, like Joseph Gordon Levitt and Paul Feig, because they are always gracious to give me film advice."

Harrity in Feature Films

For Harrity, the most exciting thing about being in front of the camera is being able to tell a story. "It's all about storytelling. Telling a story that people can relate to, learn from, laugh with, cry with, and ultimately create a creative outlet for people to escape into," said Harrity.

Harrity, 25 years-old, will be in the upcoming independent film 'The Witching Hour,' starring Michael Madsen and William Forsythe. A thriller to debut in 2015, 'The Witching Hour' is written and directed by Kevin MacDonald. Harrity will be playing the role of "Heidi." Harrity has also been in feature films 'American Hustle,' 'TED', and most recently, 'The Forger' starring John Travolta.

"It was so much fun filming 'The Witching Hour,'" said Harrity. 'I got to work with a local Boston crew everyday."

Harrity, who made her acting debut in Lifetime's 'Sexting in Suburbia,' was also featured in Lifetime's film 'The Assault,' which is currently airing on the Lifetime Network. 'The Assault' was released in September. Harrity played the role of 'Izzie.' The film is about a new girl arriving in town and accusing a high school football player of sexually assaulting her. "'It was amazing to come back home to film. I was basically filming in my backyard and areas of where I grew up," said Harrity.

Harrity Finds Local Motivation

Andrea Ajemian of AA Films, who grew up in Rutland and produces movies in Worcester, has had an extremely positive influence on Harrity. "I started interning with Andrea during high school. She gave me my first break with 'Sexting in Suburbia.' That transitioned into 'The Assault.' Andrea has been such an influence on my acting career. I really look up to her, her drive, and I strive to have a career in the entertainment industry like she does," said Harrity.

For NESN, Harrity is not only on Dirty Water TV, but also a reporter on NESN's Wicked Bites, a food and sports show. "I interned with Dirty Water TV while at Emerson," said Harrity. "That internship transitioned into a reporting job. I owe my television background to Julie and Bill Fairweather." The Fairweathers are the owners of Dirty Water TV.

Harrity notes her on-camera TV personality heroes are Joan Rivers and Jenny McCarthy. "They both always push boundaries," said Harrity. Harrity also adds that actress Anna Kendrick is her feature film hero. "I'm pretty sure I'm her half-sister that she doesn't know about," said Harrity.

Zero Fox Life

"Although I'm always filming for Dirty Water TV, 'Zero Fox Life' is the project which I'm currently really focusing on. The 'Zero Fox Life' is a social media movement," said Harrity.

Harrity co-hosts with her friend, Lori Kyler Christensen of Venni Caprice Clothing. "It's new, it's online, and it's a cool and hip outlet for Lori and I," said Harrity. 'The Zero Fox Life' is a video series on YouTube, asking the question of "If tomorrow never comes, will you have regrets?" It's purpose is to inspire individuals to make changes in their lives and to go after their dreams.

Harrity said, "I want to show people, specifically the youth who strive to work in the entertainment industry, that you can build your own career. You don't need to be born into an A-list family to be successful. I'm still at the beginning process and I hope as I continue to grow, I motivate others around me to try, even if they think they may fail."
