Barrington Photographer Dan Connolly’s Portraits on Exhibit
Wednesday, May 04, 2011
"Incidental Portraits" is is an alternative look at portraiture that steps away from past stereotypes of artificial lighting and fake backgrounds in a studio. Connolly’s portraits were captured in the course of his subjects’ lives, within the context of their everyday moments. Subjects are wearing everyday clothing and are photographed in their homes, on their streets, or in the course of their day.
There's a candid authenticity to Connolly's images. "I asked subjects not to smile in most cases," Connolly said. "I wanted to take another step further from the stereotypical conceptions of portraiture."
