Beauty Timetable: Your Fall Guide

Friday, September 10, 2010

The routines of fall are upon us with more scheduled activities than the lazy days of summer. Getting your spa on can be a bit of a challenge so here is a timetable of how often you should get certain things done or when you can do them yourself.

Facial Treatments

Ideally facials are done once a month but for many people that can be costly, both financially and time wise. Many spas, like Alayne White Spa (Bristol and Providence) offer package deals like buying six of any service and getting the seventh free or buying two of any service and getting the third half off. These bundles are fantastic and can save you mucho money. If a monthly facial is just not in your future go for seasonal treatments. Your facialist can customize your treatment to the season: out with the old, in with the new!
Ideal Timing: Monthly
Your Timing: Seasonally

Manicures

Cooler weather and eventually winter cold can wreak havoc on your hands and nails. The ideal schedule for a manicure is every 1-2 weeks but at least monthly if possible. To avoid cracked skin, moisturize multiple times a day to keep hands soft and supple and to keep your nails looking fresh and clean. If going to the salon 2-4 times a month is just too much, give yourself

polish touch-ups at home as well as mini hand massages to increase circulation and revitalize your hands. Use good old olive oil to moisturize cuticles and get circulation going to enhance nail growth.
Ideal Timing: Every two weeks
Your Timing: Every six weeks, with touch ups at home

Pedicures

As our feet go into hiding during the fall and winter, you can get by on little, if any, pedicures. Do keep your tootsies moisturized and avoid cracked skin by applying oil or cream nightly. If you are someone who likes your toes to always look en vogue you can get away with a pedicure once every six weeks as chipping will not occur as often as open-toe season. Foot creams or even olive oil are perfect ways to infuse moisture and keep feet looking pretty in the cold winter months.
Ideal Timing: Monthly
Your Timing: Every other month or moisturize at home

Massage

Massage is a fabulous stress relief so go as often as you want or your purse allows! Try different types such as Swedish or Deep Tissue massage to keep you feeling calm and relaxed. Having regular massages reduces stress, increases

a feeling of well-being and can give you something to look forward to when your day is an endless blur of deadlines. No time for spa massage? Buy some massage oil and have your partner massage it into your back and neck. Massage oils and creams are a stellar stress relief.
Ideal Timing: Monthly
Your Timing: What your schedule and budget allow

Hair Removal

While we wear more clothing in the fall, you still want to keep up with your waxing, tweezing or threading. Eyebrows are always on the prowl so keep up by getting them done every 2-3 weeks, depending upon hair growth. Bikini lines and legs may go by the wayside but if you want to stay on schedule, head to the spa every six weeks or so, growth permitting. At home use a hair removal cream or an old school razor to keep growth at bay.
Ideal Timing: Brows, every 2-3 weeks, other hair removal, every six weeks
Your Timing: Brows, monthly, other hair removal, when (if!) needed

Let me know what spa services you get done during the fall and how often!
