Beauty: What’s Hot for Fall

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

The leaves will begin to change and thus so should your makeup palette! Indulge this fall with a minimalist look or go full throttle with color. We talked to Newport makeup artist Allison Barbera to get the scoop on fall looks.

Minimize

For the fall season, one of the hottest looks is a minimal makeup trend with neutral colors and thick brows. Mocha lips, neutral shadows, cat eyes on bare face: they all scream “look how little I’m wearing and still look fierce!” Pair mocha lips with a bare face or with a smoky eye; go with neutral tans, browns and khakis on the eyes and skip blush altogether. There is something for everyone.

GoLocalProv Picks: MAC Spice Lip Pencil, $13, Nordstrom, Providence Place Mall; Jane Iredale Liquid Eye Liner in

Black, $20, Facing Thayer Spa, Providence; Urban Decay Naked Palette, $44, Ulta, Warwick.

Maximize

Another colorful trend is, well, color! Purple eyes, purple lips (not together!) and berry-stained or red lips are definitely in order for fall. Pair some iris eyes with a nude lip or go neutral with the lids and make a splash with a grape-inspired grin. Red lips are always en vogue so glam it on up, girls.

GoLocalProv Picks: CoverGirl Outlast Lip Stain in Wild Berry Wink, $8, drug stores; Nars Eyeshadow in Daphne, $23, Sephora, Providence Place Mall; Cosmetic Cosmos Liquid Lips Trio Sunset red/Mauve/Mocha, $16, Cosmetic Cosmos, Newport; Stila Lip Rouge in Moue, $20, The Apothecary Newport.

Multitask

Another fun trend that you can “fall” into this autumn is textured eye makeup: using cream, matte and shimmer shadows within the same look. Use a shimmer over the entire lid, apply matte to the crease and highlight the brow bone with shimmer: gorgeous!  Add some liquid or gel eyeliner and you’re glam to go.

GoLocalProv Picks: Make Up Forever Aqua Cream, $22, Sephora, Providence Place; Pixi Beauty Gel Liner, $18, Target, Almay Truly Lasting Eyeshadow Trios, $9, drugstores, Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics Crushed Mineral Eyeshadow, $18, Sienna Skin Studio, Cranston.
