SW: Lets talk a little about your new career path.
EJ: I have been building a business called Solo Jubin Clothing which was founded in 2012. I started sewing the same year with Yildiz Uygur at Rice Square Alterations.
SW: What led you to this career path?
EJ: When I was a little boy I loved to dress up. At a young age people said that I dressed very nicely. I was really good with color and knew what worked together. Everyone would always ask me how they looked. I was the fashion police at my house. I always considered a career in fashion but didn’t think I could make money in fashion so I looked at something else. But I ended up sticking with fashion.
SW: What do you feel stands you out from the competition?
EJ: I feel like my clothes are very bold. There is tribal influence in my clothing and it tells a story. I feel like my colors pop out and I use unique fabrics. In addition to women’s clothing, I make men’s stuff.
EJ: I have something planned for my new collection. It is called “A Night in Paris.” It began with an image of the Eiffel Tower. I was inspired as I studied the photographs of the Eiffel Tower and saw the way the black and gold lights shined through it and into the night sky. I imagined an image that has become my unique new line.
SW: How do you spend your free time?
EJ: I spend my time sewing and making garments for people. Since I am not in school for fashion design yet, I still want to learn. But I still make time to go out and have fun.
SW: Are you involved in the Worcester community?
EJ: I was in on a dance team at the Worcester Boys and Girls Club called In Da Zone. After I graduated from high school I wanted to give back to the dancers and I help with their dance routines. I also work at the Boys and Girls Club as a group leader.
SW: What is your favorite quote?
EJ: “You can spend your whole day wondering about racism, but in most cases I find it is just better to ignore it-rise above the racism.”~ Tracy Reece
SW: What is a fact that few people know about you?
EJ: As Solo Jubin Clothing becomes known, people will learn that I am a go getter. I am also a very friendly lovable person.
SW: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
EJ: I see myself married and with kids. I also see myself being very successful with my Solo Jubin business. I see Solo Jubin being a name that everyone knows and fashion that everyone loves to wear.
