City Cooling Centers Open

Worcester is opening a cooling center on Wednesday, June 20th and on Thursday, June 21st at the Worcester Senior Center at 128 Providence Street to provide citizens with refuge from the extreme heat according to the city's Emergency Management Team and Department of Public Health. The National Weather Service stated that near record temperatures are expected, with the anticipated heat index exceeding 95 during the day. Free transportation to the cooling center will be available by calling (508) 752-9283. The center will be open from 10 am to 4 pm both days.

In addition, the Worcester Public Library and its branch libraries will be open to provide citizens relief from the heat. The main library, located at 3 Salem Square, will be open 9 am to 9 pm on Wednesday and 9 am to 5:30 pm Thursday. The Frances Perkins Branch at 470 West Boylston Street will be open 9 am to 5:30 pm on Wednesday and 1to 9 pm on Thursday. The Great Brook Valley Branch will be open 2 to 5 pm both days.
