ONE Campus strives to combine the crucial elements of advocacy campaigns with the energy and activism unique to the college experience.
Clark University’s student chapter of the anti-poverty organization,
ONE, has won a private screening of the new film
Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, which will be held on December 6 at Clark University.
The ONE Campus Challenge (OCC) is the college student section of ONE. The OCC calls students to action through three "challenges" each semester. Each challenge has a theme, which can range from Malaria nets to energy poverty.
Founded by the singer Bono of U2, the ONE Campaign is an NGO non-profit that focuses on the eradication of extreme poverty and preventable diseases in Africa.
One Campus Challenge at Clark
Clark currently ranks ninth out of over 250 schools in this year’s ONE Campus Challenge – an intercollegiate competition designed to mobilize students in the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease.
“Because of our top 10 standing, we won the screening of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom," Rosie Goldich, a member of OCC at Clark University, told GoLocal. “We remain in 9th place, but have intentions of gaining more points after our next events are submitted.”

The Call to Serve
“I joined ONE at Clark University my freshman year through my roommate and other friends who got me interested,” Goldich, a senior, told GoLocal. “I was looking for a group that focused on international aid, and I'm so glad I joined ONE. At the end of my sophomore year I applied to become a part of the e-board. The start of my junior year I started as the Communications/Social Media chair of ONE. Since then, we have changed the e-board around. Instead of everyone having distinct roles, there are five co-presidents, of which I am one, who each handle different responsibilities as they arise."
As for why she remains a member of ONE, Goldich added: “I have stayed at ONE at Clark University not only because of the amazing advocacy work that we have done, but because of the uplifting energy that we have at meetings and our events.”
Art Installation/HIV Testing
In addition to the film screening, Clark University will also host an art installation on December 3rd in the University Center. “The art will be photos submitted by ONE members, depicting images from Africa of the effects of HIV/AIDS. On December 6th, we will also be having free HIV testing in our University Center, provided by AIDS Project Worcester,” Goldich told GoLocal.
Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom
Based on Nelson Mandela’s 1994 autobiography, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom is a film chronicling the anti-apartheid revolutionary’s childhood, education, imprisonment, and presidency. The movie stars Idris Elba (Pacific Rim) as Mandela and Naomie Harris (Skyfall) as his wife Winnie. It was directed by Justin Chadwick, who also helmed The Other Boleyn Girl.
