Condit: What’s a Food Hub, and What Does it Have to do with Theatre?
Wednesday, February 18, 2015
This Thursday, you have the opportunity to find out more about how many organizations, leaders, farmers, educators, and citizens are working together and Building a Sustainable Worcester: Taking a Regional Food Hub from Vision to Reality at The Hanover Theatre on Thursday, February 19 at 5:30pm.
Due to the generosity its sponsor, National Grid, this event is free to the public so that anybody who is interested can participate in the movement to find ways to build a more sustainable Worcester, specifically how we can all have better access to quality, local, and sustainable food sources. This is an issue that’s important to everyone, which is why the Regional Environmental Council and the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce have partnered with The Hanover Theatre on this event.
Building a greener and more sustainable community is a priority for all the organizations involved, and the program for the evening promises to be informative and inspiring for a diverse audience. Dr. Thomas H. Kelly, founding director and chief sustainability officer of the UNH Sustainability Institute, is the keynote speaker. Following his presentation, Chamber of Commerce president, Tim Murray, is moderating a panel discussion to address several key issues. One of the important topics is how a food hub in the city of Worcester has the potential to help local farmers grow their businesses and create jobs, provide access to feed families, patients, the underserved, and contribute to a greener, culturally vibrant community.
Following the presentation, Fischer encourages attendees to participate in a networking reception combined with a sustainability exhibit. This is your chance to mingle and discuss issues with leaders from local businesses, academia, healthcare, farms, and anyone who is committed to contributing to a greener, more sustainable Worcester.
