Does the Next Star of “The Bachelor” Live in Central Mass?

“The customers really like it and it’s really fun so do,” said Amy Blumenthal, spokesperson for Bernie and Phyl’s. “We try to do events like this regularly and we pick different kinds of shows that appeal to different people.”
The audition is open to women and men hoping to appear on the show’s 17th season. The store expects more than 200 people to turn out. And you can bet the competition will be more intense than a 2-on-1 date.
So what does it take to get noticed? Angela Peri, owner of Boston Casting, shared some tips to help put you in the running for the final rose.
Look Good, Really Good:
Obviously, there are a lot of reality show contestants that fall into the “genetically blessed” category, but Peri said it is “imperative that people look fabulous” at an audition. “You need to prep like you’re going to a wedding – hair, make-up, nails should be perfect, clothes should be pressed and shoes polished,” said Peri. “Women have to have their hair done and men should have a nice shave and hair cut.”
Be Yourself
Reality TV is all about being real, right? Well, at least in theory. The same goes for the audition. Peri said it is important to stay true to who you are, because your true personality will eventually come out in the show.
Be Boston
Casting directors are coming to Massachusetts for a reason – they want some wicked awesome people on their show. “They love Boston for our accent and because we’re ‘tell it like it is people,’” said Peri. “We’re not fake like people from L.A. or as brash as New Yorkers and they love that attitude.” That doesn’t mean you should take on some stereotypical Boston persona that isn’t you. But Peri said someone who is well-groomed, with a good accent and a bit of an edge, will have an 80% chance of getting picked.
Be Prepared
According to Peri, producers will ask a few questions about general topics including your career and your five year plan. So it’s good to have some strong answers prepared ahead of time. Peri also recommends having a funny story ready to fill any awkward lulls in the conversation.
Dream Big
It is okay to go on a reality show with the goal of spending more than fifteen minutes in the spotlight. Peri said Bethenny Frankel is a great example of someone who successfully used a reality show to enhance her career. And it helps that “The Bachelor” has a good track record and it’s not like contestants are “eating slime.”
The casting call will be held from 1-5pm on Saturday. The store will remain open for customers, so even if you aren’t planning to audition, it might be fun to go and watch.
