Admission to the Worcester Common Oval will be free on New Year’s Day (Jan 1) from 1-6 PM, thanks to sponsorship from The Hanover Insurance Group Foundation. Skate rentals are available for $3 with a $25 deposit per skate rental.

“We want to kick off the New Year by encouraging everyone to come out to enjoy a free skate in our great City,” said Jennifer Luisa, assistant vice president, corporate community relations, at The Hanover Insurance Group. “The Worcester Oval represents a tremendous partnership of organizations across the city and we are happy to be part of it. We look forward to another successful year in 2014.”

In addition to the free skate, The Hanover Insurance Foundation announced a $15,000 sponsorship to support The Worcester Common Oval. The rink is a private-public partnership that has garnered widespread support, with major sponsors and partners signing-on to assist with the financial and operational costs associated with the rink for a three-month period.

The rink is open for public skating:

* Saturdays and Sundays in December from 1 to 6 p.m.

* Saturdays and Sundays in January and February from 1 to 5 p.m.

* Thursday lunch time skate from 12 to 2 p.m.

* Holidays

* School vacation weeks

Regular admission for open skate is $2, with children 6 and under to skate free, and $3 for skate rentals with a $25 deposit per skate rental. Visit www.worcestercommonoval.com for the full schedule.

The Sprinkler Factory

The Sprinkler Factory is a unique gem in Downtown Worcester and a true center for all the arts. Once a manufacturing plant, the Sprinkler Factory now provides space for individual artists to form their own studios and contains areas for music, dance, and other fun activities. The massive atrium on the second floor in the middle of the complex is available for local artists to show their work. The public is welcome to browse the artists' studios and galleries. An upcoming exhibition entitled Indoor Games , runs from December 7 through January 25, captures the spirit of creativity during the winter months.

Boulder Art Gallery
